The Burgtheater (the former imperial court theatre), one of the most important theatres in Europe, ist the second-oldest theatre still in existence after the Comédie Francaise. Its all-German program includes all the variety of spoken theatre: classics and contemporary pieces, as well as experimental theatre and readings. The director is Klaus Bachler. The Burgtheater is large. It has got 1175 seats, 81 standing places, and room for 12 wheelchairs and escorts. Inspite of that it´s often worth buying tickets in advance. In addition to the main theatre there are three other locations where Burgtheater productions are performed: the “Vestibül”, a studio seating 70, is located in the main building (lines 2, 1, D, J, Dr. Karl-Lueger-Ring 2, 1010 Wien). The other locations are the “Kasino” (lines 1, 2, D, Schwarzenbergplatz 1, 1010 Wien) with 200 seats, and the “Akademietheater” (line 1,2, D, Franz-Lisztstr. 1, 1030 Wien), seating 500, plus 32 standing places and room for 4 wheelchairs and escorts. Ticket Prices For Burgtheater and Akademietheater tickets cost from € 4 to € 44 , standing places are € 1,5 (1 hour before the performance). Tickets for the other locations are generally € 7 to € 22 at the Kasino and € 7 to € 15 at the Vestibül, but prices can slightly vary depending on the respective performance. The Burgtheater also offers subscriptions for 5 performances in one season with a 25% discount. Moreover, there are the individual-choice subscriptions with 10 vouchers per season (20% discount, 40% discount for persons under the age of 27). In addition to the subscriptions, there are the so-called cycles (10% discount). A cycle is a set of about 4 performances with a common theme, such as the Classics Cycle, the Austria Cycle, the Comedy Cycle and Author´s Cycles. Tickets for concessions are available for € 7 either in advance or at the box office at the night of the performance. The Burgtheater also offers subscriptions for five performances in one season with a discount up to 47%. Moreover, there are the individual-choice subscriptions with 10 vouchers per season (at least 10% discount, up to 55% discount for persons under the age of 27).

In addition to the subscriptions, there is the so-called cycle "after the premiere". A cycle is a set of about 6-7 performances and includes a programme for each play and a welcomedrink (Prosecco). Further discounts:

Last minute tickets are sold one hour before the performance at half price (except matinées and special events). Tickets for concessions are available for € 7 either in advance or at the box office 30 minutes before the performance.
