At times whispering, at times shouting, Birgit Minichmayr conjures up extreme moods, effortlessly changing perspectives, roles and genders in the process. She moves with virtuosity between the conflicting realms of an ageing lover, an androgynous youth and a mysterious dark lady. Tactile eroticism alternates with platonic love, nightmares with fragile glimmers of hope, and morbid self-love with raging jealousy. “How does Minichmayr do it? Without it seeming contrived?
