Klaus Maria Brandauer

Klaus Maria Brandauer, born in Bad Aussee in 1943, has been a member of the Burgtheater ensemble since 1972. In 1989 he received the honorary title of Kammerschauspieler. He has starred in many Burgtheater productions and has also made guest appearances at other theatres and festivals, including the Salzburg Festival, where he played the title role in Jedermann (Everyman) from 1983 to 1988. Since the 1960s he has also worked as a director from time to time. Klaus Maria Brandauer is a familiar face in film and TV and is one of the few German-language actors to have experienced success in Hollywood. He has received numerous film and theatre awards, is an honorary citizen of Altaussee and recipient of the Gertrud Eysoldt Ring. His portrait, painted by Elke Krystufek, is on display in the Burgtheater. He has been an honorary member of the Burgtheater since 2013 and received the Nestroy Theatre Award for his life’s work in 2014.
