Burgtheaterstudio Workshop

Education & Training

In the BURGTHEATERSTUDIO there is a constant lively exchange with teachers9 and educators, since it is through them that many young people are inspired to come to the theatre.
The resources of the BURGTHEATERSTUDIO are geared towards all types of schools, higher education establishments, second chance education institutions and social educational facilities in and around Vienna. It uses workshops, laboratories and training sessions to help students relate personally to the themes of productions, so that children and young people can actively engage with culture.

School classes and courses can take advantage of our preparatory workshops for selected productions10 in which pupils consider the characters’ motives for action, the dramatic background to the production and the artistic team’s handling of it. The workshops are linked with a visit to watch the production, either in the pupils’ school or in the Burgtheater itself.

Groups and/or school classes of 15 or more can register for a workshop, with the pupils’ school grade being matched to the production
Workshop lasts 3–4 hours
Projects with schools are supported by the Vienna Chamber of Labour.

Groups and school classes can book individual laboratory sessions (Movement and Dance, Choral Speaking, Dramaturgy, Improvisation, Role Work, Writing Workshop).

Groups and/or school classes of 15 or more (from any school grade) can register for a workshop.
Workshops last 60–90 minutes

Costumes, fog, characters, a stage technician, a musician, an actor and a lighting technician – all of these are taken out of a suitcase and bring the world of theatre to life in the classroom. How does it work? Brilliantly – but only with the enthusiastic participation of the children! Each child is not just a spectator, but also part of the performance.

Can be booked for school classes from 2nd to 4th grade
Lasts 1 school period
