A guided tour of the Burgtheater offers unique insights into the architecture, art, organisation and history of one of Europe’s largest and oldest theatres.

The tour includes the grand staircases with the famous ceiling murals by Franz Matsch and brothers Gustav and Ernst Klimt, the sculpture collections of famous dramatists such as Hauptmann, Schnitzler, Raimund and Nestroy, and the portrait gallery of renowned ensemble members, through to the technical side of Europe’s largest theatre. Visitors will also be taken into the auditorium and onto the stage, provided that there are no rehearsals or performances underway.

    Adults € 8,-
    Senior citizens € 7,-
Children, school pupils, students € 4,-

The guided tours start at the main entrance, in the box office foyer, and last about 50 minutes. Tickets can be purchased at the Burgtheater box office 15 minutes before the guided tour is set to begin (on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays as well as during the months of July and August, the box office foyer opens 15 minutes before the tour starts).

You do not need to book your ticket in advance, unless you are booking for a group! Please let us know in advance if you are in a wheelchair!

Further, please note that it will not be possible to enter the auditorium and the stage area on certain days and during the summer when a set is being assembled or rehearsal or maintenance work is underway.

There are no guided tours on days with matinées.
