Philip Roth
Der Schriftsteller wurde 1933 in Newark, New Jersey, geboren und starb 2018 in New York City. 1998 erhielt er für Amerikanisches Idyll den Pulitzerpreis. Ebenfalls 1998 wurde ihm im Weißen Haus die National Medal of Arts verliehen, und 2001 erhielt er die höchste Auszeichnung der American Academy of Arts and Letters, die Gold Medal, mit der unter anderem John Dos Passos, William Faulkner und Saul Bellow ausgezeichnet worden sind. Er hat zweimal den National Book Award und den National Book Critics Circle Award erhalten, dreimal den PEN/Faulkner Award und außerdem den PEN/Nabokov Award und den PEN/Saul Bellow Award.
