Martin Wuttke
Martin Wuttke, born in Gelsenkirchen in 1962, trained at the Puppetry College (German Puppetry Institute) in Bochum and at the Westfälische Schauspielschule Bochum. In 1985 he was engaged at the Schauspiel Frankfurt. Engagements at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg and the Berliner Ensemble followed. From January to December 1995 he temporarily assumed the post of director of the Berliner Ensemble. From 1999 he mainly performed at the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in Berlin; he joined the ensemble of the Burgtheater in Vienna in 2009. In 1992 he received the Boy Gobert Award of the Körber Foundation and in 1995 the Gertrud Eysoldt Ring. In 1995 and 2003 he was voted Actor of the Year in the critics’ survey carried out by the theatre magazine Theater heute. He has also received the Nestroy Theatre Award (2010), the German Theatre Award “Der Faust” (2011) and the Stanislawski Award. He has been a member of the Berlin Academy of the Arts since 1996.
