Der einsame Westen

Slovenian director Mateja Koležnik has already staged several plays by Martin McDonagh, dubbed the “Irish Tarantino”, in her home country. "The Leenane Trilogy" (1996–1997) dates back to a time before McDonagh became a successful filmmaker "In Bruges", "The Banshees of Inisherin". These three plays, set in Ireland, allow us to observe small-town people bad-mouthing one another in McDonagh’s unique linguistic style. THE LONESOME WEST is the culminating point in his remarkable early work, which explores a wide range of timeless themes: family, guilt and atonement, the meaning of life, and death. And, of course, the eternal question of which are the better crisps: Taytos or McCoy’s?
